Kabul, Afghanistan – July 30, 2025 — On the sidelines of the ongoing Shpageeza Cricket League, members of the Afghanistan Sports Journalists’ Federation (ASJF) met today with Mr. Mirwais Ashraf, Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), for a productive and forward-looking discussion on enhancing cooperation between sports media and cricket board in the country.
Mr. Ashraf, already familiar with the recent initiatives and growing presence of the federation, praised its efforts to promote responsible and professional sports journalism. He emphasized the critical role of committed and ethical sports journalists in accurately reflecting the spirit of sport, addressing challenges, offering constructive feedback, and helping raise public awareness.
“Sports institutions need professional journalists who are dedicated to honest reporting, providing critical insights, and promoting transparency through their coverage,” Mr. Ashraf stated during the meeting.
Both sides agreed on the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration. Mr. Ashraf acknowledged the value of such engagements and expressed his support for holding similar meetings in the future to strengthen mutual understanding and coordination between the ACB and the sports journalism community.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in the near future, aiming to support the sustainable development of cricket and sports journalism across Afghanistan.
