World Sports Journalists Day Marked In Paktika

PAKTIKA, July 5, 2025 – World Sports Journalists Day was celebrated today at Pashtun Ghag Radio in Paktika province, where local sports journalists, youth representatives, and officials gathered to honor the contributions of sports media in the region.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Usman Serat, head of sports affairs and the Olympic department in Paktika, along with a number of dedicated sports journalists and young community members.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Usman Serat praised the efforts of Paktika’s sports journalists, noting:

“Despite limited resources, they have maintained a high level of professionalism. Our doors are open to them, and we assure them of our full cooperation.”

Sports journalist Nasruddin Afghan emphasized the broader impact of their work, saying:

“Sports is not only a physical activity; it drives social change. Through sports journalism, we strive to send positive messages to our community.”

Colleagues Rahimullah Sabawoon and Dilawar, both active sports reporters in Paktika, echoed these sentiments, calling for greater support:

“We expect institutions, federations, and the public to stand with us so that we can work more effectively and amplify the voices of athletes.”

Meanwhile, Abdul Rauf Zaheen, another participant, underlined the crucial role of sports journalism, stating:

“Sports journalists are the voice of athletes. If the media exists, sports flourishes. Without it, no one hears their achievements.”

Participants concluded the ceremony by expressing hope for stronger ties between the sports and media sectors in Paktika. They called for increased attention to the challenges faced by sports journalists and reaffirmed their commitment to unity and collaborative efforts to promote peace, development, and athletic excellence in the province.
