The Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation (ASJF) wishes to inform all members, partners, and the wider sports community that the only official and legally recognized ASJF Congress and General Body Elections will take place on Monday, 25 August 2025, in Kabul.
This event follows the official licensing of ASJF by the Ministry of Information and Culture on 4 August 2025, and will be held in accordance with Afghan law, AIPS Statutes, and principles of transparency, fairness, and inclusion.
We are aware of announcements regarding an online “congress and election” being organized on 17 August 2025 by former ASJF officials.
This event is not authorized by the legally registered ASJF and has no legal or institutional standing in Afghanistan.
All members – including those currently outside Afghanistan – have been formally invited to participate in the 25 August Congress.
We continue to welcome the participation of every Afghan sports journalist, without exception, in this transparent and democratic process.
Our Congress and elections will be observed by:
- Afghanistan National Olympic Committee
- Afghanistan Cricket Board
- Afghanistan Football Federation
- Independent media and civil society organizations
- International sports journalism observers invited from AIPS and AIPS Asia
For the sake of unity, credibility, and the future of sports journalism in Afghanistan, we urge all members and stakeholders to support the lawful, inclusive, and transparent Congress on 25 August.
